Resources to support Syrian Refugees in Wales
The Education Toolkit for Syrian Refugee Children in Wales and Cultural Orientation Training Package for Resettled Refugees were both commissioned by the Wales Strategic Migration Partnership (WSMP) in the wake of the growing presence of refugees across all Welsh communities and as part of the Syrian Resettlement Programme (now the Vulnerable Persons Resettlement Scheme (VPRS)).
Cultural Orientation Training Package for Resettled Refugees
The Cultural Orientation Training Package for Resettled Refugees aims to provide resettled refugees with a detailed introduction to life in the UK and Wales, and support their journey to independence. The training was commissioned by the WSMP and is designed to be delivered with an Arabic-speaking interpreter, and was developed in consultation with refugees, building on orientation received in countries of origin by the International Organisation for Migration.
Education Toolkit for Syrian Refugee Children in Wales
The Education Toolkit for Syrian Refugee Children in Wales has been developed in partnership between WSMP and the Gwent Ethnic Minority Achievement Services (GEMS), and builds on their significant experience of supporting refugee and asylum seeker children to integrate into the school. It is available for use by all teachers supporting recently arrived refugee children.
